West Michigan Works! has awarded Going PRO Talent Fund awards totaling $15.8 million to 222 West Michigan businesses to help them train, develop and retain more than 3,400 current employees, apprentices and new hires. I am.

“The Going PRO Talent Fund supports Michigan businesses and provides critical resources to attract, retain, and strengthen the skills of their workforce. It’s essential,” said Angie Barksdale, West Michigan Works Chief Operating Officer. “By allowing businesses to invest in targeted training, we help businesses stay competitive and meet industry demands, which in turn contributes to economic health and growth across the state. ”
There were 1,133 applications across the state, including employers within the West Michigan plant. The seven-county region received 352 applications, representing 31% of the state total. The 222 applications approved amounted to 34.7% of the state’s overall funding share.
The 2024 funding round saw a slight change in focus, with more awards going to IT companies and fewer awards going to manufacturing.
Empowering individual employees
In addition to providing substantial support for businesses, the Going PRO Talent Fund’s impact extends to the individual level, improving career prospects and increasing income potential for thousands of West Michigan employees.
“The Going PRO Talent Fund directly impacts the lives of individuals by providing them with skills development opportunities in high-demand, high-paying jobs,” Barksdale said. “This investment will not only meet workforce demands by providing people with the training and qualifications they need to advance their careers and earn higher incomes.”
