KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Royals and Chiefs released a joint statement Friday night saying the teams will build a new stadium and ballpark district in downtown Jackson County if voters approve a 3/8 extension. He stated that he intends to remain in the company. Sales tax cents on the April ballot.
Likewise, the opportunity for North Kansas City to become the Royals’ statement new home may have gone. However, as KSHB 41 spoke with residents, they realized they were not having any hard feelings.

“It’s going to be great wherever it goes,” said North Kansas City resident Tim Roberts.
Roberts, a longtime Royals fan, was excited by the idea of being able to watch an MLB game within walking distance while still showing off the community he loves.
“A small town in a big city,” Roberts described it. “I think it has had a tremendous effect on North Kansas City.”
The biggest factor was the economic growth the stadium would bring to the area by supporting businesses such as Chappell’s Restaurant, where Roberts likes to watch football games.
Roberts said Friday’s announcement was a disappointment.
“Everyone here is a big Royals fan,” he said. “I think Royals Stadium will be a big hit in North Kansas City.”
But not everyone in the area feels that way.
At Screenland Amlo Theater, employee Derek Dunn wasn’t too keen on the idea of the stadium moving across the street.
Dunn believes it will destroy the small-town charm the area has to offer.
“I think every business around here is going to be about providing that service,” Dunn said. “That’s not bad for economic growth, but that’s not why I like North Kansas City.”
From a business standpoint, Dunn believes theaters would have been hit hard.
“I think parking would have been much more difficult if that had happened,” Dunn said. “If we could do that, I think people would be less interested in coming here.”
Friday’s announcement raises the possibility that we may never know what this stadium will bring to the area, but the next question is what will fill the empty space that was supposed to house the Royals.
“I don’t know anything other than Royals Stadium,” Roberts said.
