Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa said at a press conference in Kiev on January 7 that Japan would “contribute $37 million to the NATO Trust Fund” to purchase a drone detection system for Ukraine, adding that Japan will continue to provide support to Ukraine. He added that he is actively promoting this.
In addition to the drone detection system, Japan also delivered five mobile gas turbine generators and seven transformers to help Ukraine prepare for the harsh winter.

Kamikawa was in Kiev on his first foreign trip of the year to demonstrate Japan’s commitment to the Ukrainian cause. She will meet with Ukrainian Dmytro Kuleba.
According to Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Japan plans to demonstrate its commitment to Ukraine at the Japan-Ukraine talks on economic reconstruction on February 19, which will be attended in person by Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmyhal.

Ukraine’s Ministry of Finance reported on December 21 that Ukraine’s state budget has received approximately $950 million in aid from Japan as part of a World Bank project aimed at reconstruction and social protection.
