Masters 2024 Snooker: Jack Lisowski defeats world champion Luca Bressel to advance to quarter-finals

Jack Lisowowski defeated world champion Luca Brecel at Alexandra Palace to reach the quarter-finals of the 2024 Masters.

The Englishman defeated the Belgian 6-2, avenging their most recent encounter in which he was ousted by Bressel at the Players Championship last February.

Brecel’s pink mistake created a break chance for his opponent, and Lisovski took the first frame and took it to earn a clear 70, continuing his calm and tidy start to the match.

Brecel struggled to catch the eye and missed a long red early in the second, giving Lisowski another chance. After biting the cherry a few times, Lisofsky took his chance and reded it to the bottom left, resulting in a frame ball and a shot for Century. He took it for granted, evoking his 300th career century break and winning 2-0.

A long red from an awkward angle moved Bressel into third place with a nice break of 28, but Lisowski quickly reasserted his authority and easily cleared the table.

The fourth was no exception. Brecel continued to miss and Lisofsky continued to pot accurately. Accumulating a break of 69, Bressel was able to look back into the frame with an improbable mistake, but once he realized he was being snooked there was no escape. 4-0 up at the session break, the Belgian had something to think about. Lisofsky had a 97% pot success rate and Bressel was down with 81.

The world champion had problems with his positioning early on, but played better and came back on the table to take number five, although he narrowly missed out on a century as Green stopped just short of the left-center pocket.

A break of 49 showed a swing of momentum, and Bressel found his rhythm in the sixth, but this time Lisovski began to miss out.

103 was enough to take the frame and halve the difference, but his luck ended here when Lisovski shifted into gear again. Brecel’s earlier profligacy came back to haunt him, but it was Lisowski who reached the last eight with winning breaks of 86 and 77 in London.
