Alaska residents will soon receive money from the government as part of an annual payment program.
Most taxpayers are eligible to receive a $1,312 windfall as part of a government program that has begun mailing out checks.
The Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD) is an annual direct payment sent to residents based on the state’s oil and mineral resources.
The fund was established in 1976 after the discovery of oil in the northern part of this young state.
The 2024 checks won’t arrive until October, but applications for the fund are being accepted until March 31.
However, some 2023 checks will be issued soon.
Those who were already “eligible/unpaid” for the 2023 amount by January 10 can expect payment on January 18, 2024.
Those who reach that status by February 7th will be paid on February 15th.
The last chance to prove your eligibility is March 13th. Alaskans receiving the final payments will receive their checks on March 21st.

The 2023 benefit amount is set at $1,312, but politicians across the state are wrangling over the size of the 2024 check.
Alaska Gov. Mike Dunleavy has proposed payments of $3,000 per person, according to the Anchorage Daily News.
The exact amount of the payment for 2024 will not be known until late June, local newspapers reported.
Alaska has been cited as a rare example of a universal basic income, a system in which the government pays everyone enough money to live on.
Therefore, the state’s material wealth is available to every man, woman, and child living in Alaska, subject to certain qualifications.
Felons are excluded from the payments, as are those who spend too much time out of state during the calendar year.
Alaska’s payment system, funded by oil profits, is built into the state constitution.
