Cleveland County recently announced the selection of a new Treasurer.
After a national hiring process that included a comprehensive vetting process, Philip Steffen has been selected to lead the Cleveland County Government’s Finance Department.
Stephens has 17 years of experience working in municipal finance for the city of Anacortes, Washington, according to a press release from the county. During his tenure with Anacortes, Steffen gradually assumed roles of increasing responsibility and was eventually named Interim Finance Director.
“We are honored to welcome Stephen to the Cleveland County team as our new finance director,” said County Manager David Cotton. “He is a very well-rounded subject matter expert with a proven track record of successfully executing complex financial and budget plans.”
Steffen recently led the city of Anacortes through the process of developing and implementing a $109 million annual budget, along with a $252 million capital facilities plan that rivals Cleveland County’s annual budget, according to the release. .
He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Accounting and Finance and minors in Economics and Business Administration from Western Washington University. Mr. Steffen will officially begin his new role as Finance Director on January 29th.
