ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KVIA) — The New Mexico Mortgage Finance Authority (MFA) Board of Directors has approved three service providers for the Restoring Our Communities (ROC) program. The North Central New Mexico Economic Development District, HomeWise Inc., and Sawmill Community Land Trust will receive funding to restore vacant or abandoned homes in New Mexico.
MFA launched the ROC program in September 2023 to support the development of affordable housing units while helping communities reduce vacant and abandoned homes that reduce property values.
When the MFA-led comprehensive statewide housing strategy was announced at the end of 2022, approximately 12,000 homes were vacant in New Mexico.
“We are confident that these three experienced partners will deliver high-quality work toward our program’s goal of building affordable housing in New Mexico,” MFA Chief Housing Officer said Dona Maestas de Vries. “Renovating vacant and abandoned homes also helps improve and strengthen communities.”
This program aims to increase homeownership opportunities for low- and moderate-income households. The program also provides down payment and closing cost assistance to eligible homebuyers.
