The Press Herald Toy Fund, in the spirit of Bruce Roberts, provided new toys and books to more than 2,600 children in Maine during the recent holiday season.
The annual giveaway once again brightened up the holidays for children who needed the joy the most. Some have become homeless, fled domestic violence, or lost a parent. Some parents may not be able to afford gifts due to illness, unemployment, divorce, or the limits of a single income that can’t keep up with rising prices or rent payments.
The Toy Fund is now a 75-year tradition, sustained by donations from newspaper readers and the efforts of volunteers since 1949.
Readers donated more than $186,000 during the recent holiday season, and donations are still trickling in. The Toy Fund accepts donations year-round, so it’s never too late to get involved.

Donors’ names will be published in the Press Herald and Times Record unless the donor wishes to remain anonymous.
