Registration for business pitches at Southwest Business and Entrepreneurs Expo 2024 is still open.
Take a day to invest in yourself and your team by attending the Southwest Business and Entrepreneurs Expo on February 7th. Join us as a spectator or participate in a business pitch. The expo is an encouragement to many local businesses in southwestern Manitoba, which have achieved great success in their fields.
If you’re starting or expanding your business within the region, take the next step and apply to participate in our business pitch.
Entries must be submitted by January 16th. You will have the opportunity to present your business idea to a panel of experts. There are also cash rewards available.
Things get started at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday with opening remarks from host committee chair Glenn Schellenberg.
Glenn is the Economic Development Officer for the Municipality of Deloraine Winchester. He is entrepreneurial at heart and has over 30 years of experience in the construction industry. True service is an important value to Glenn.
Walk-in registration is available to the general public. Anyone looking for business inspiration and information will enjoy this exhibition. Come early to register, enjoy coffee, conversation, and view the exhibits that will be installed at the Deloraine Winchester Community Complex Hall.
Speaker sessions include:
Uncovered – The Hidden Traps of Your Business by Kathy Snellgrove. Ms. Snellgrove was the keynote speaker at one of her first business exhibitions. She works at Siere, a business advisory firm in Brandon. Mr. Snellgrove is president of the Brandon Chamber of Commerce, a director of the Manitoba Chamber of Commerce, and for several years was an instructor at Brandon University, teaching courses in marketing, human resources, and negotiation. She worked for the Boeing Company in Winnipeg for her 11 years and has an extensive background in civil engineering along with her master’s degree in business administration.
There will be a panel discussion on succession planning with Ketan Patel and Nicole Hooper (Partner and Business Advisor to MNP). Doug Morningstar and Drew Wilkinson.
Lunch will be provided for expo attendees by Deloraine’s business, The Rendezvous Restaurant.
After lunch, Lindsay Gillon Seafoot will give a keynote address, discussing important advice on growing your team and understanding your business, personality and how to hire the right people.
Speaker sessions throughout the afternoon will include Tax Assistance for Small Businesses from the CRA Liaison Team. Immigration solutions for small businesses from Westman Immigration Services. And what an investor is looking for when he buys your business from Ketan Patel.
There’s a final session titled “Mastering Difficult Conversations as a Leader” by Lindsay Gillon-Seafoot.
By 3:45 p.m., the results of the pitch competition will be announced and prizes will be awarded.The event is scheduled to end at 4 p.m.
