- Xbox has banned a user from Xbox Live who automatically uploaded a sex scene from Baldur’s Gate 3.
- Baldur’s Gate 3 allows characters to take off their clothes and have romance with other characters.
- Xbox said players must turn off the automatic video upload feature to avoid a ban.
Xbox Live users playing Baldur’s Gate 3 are being literally caught with their pants down.
Baldur’s Gate 3 shocked the gaming scene last year, nearly sweeping The Game Awards and winning the prestigious Games of The Year award.
This massive role-playing game set in the world of Dungeons & Dragons has attracted 1.3 million players. These players continue to spend 8,196 years on the character creation screen alone.
One of the aspects that attracted many players to the game is the variety of “romance” options. This allows you to court several of the game’s playable characters based on your decisions, which can lead to steamy, naked sex scenes with him.
But these spicy scenes led to Xbox Live banning users whose devices automatically recorded and uploaded them.
News of the spreading ban exploded on Reddit after a user named Daddy-Vegas posted a photo on his account showing three different bans for auto-uploaded scenes, the longest of which was posted in 2024. Kotaku reported that it lasted until December 28th.
Xbox Live has a feature that automatically records short segments of a player’s game time and uploads them to the Community tab for viewing by other players playing the same game.
In an interview with Kotaku, Daddy Vegas said that the ban on his account was implemented “within 30 seconds, with no warning or opportunity to correct the error” after the vile clip was automatically uploaded.
Published by Xbox statement X, formerly known as Twitter, encouraged users to turn off the “auto-upload” feature if they thought they were coming across sensitive content. Because the game allows players to take off all their clothes at any time, sensitive content is detected almost every second in Baldur’s Gate.
“Our team will consider the appeal and can reverse the suspension if the action is incorrect,” it said in a statement. “For example, if this is a first offense, we will lift the suspension and let the player know why it happened and how to avoid problems in the future (such as how to turn off automatic uploads if sensitive content is being captured) .”
Xbox added that moderators will review each clip for safety and violations of content policies before taking action.
Still, Xbox’s decision to ban users from auto-uploaded content at all sparked the ire of many on social media.
“Just checking,” said one X user. Post a reply to the statement. “This is for a game that you allow to be purchased and played on your console, right? And you’re suspending your account because it’s auto-uploading content from a setting that’s on by default?” ?What’s even better is that anyone has stopped “about the content of such a game?”
Larian Studios, the makers of Baldur’s Gate, Said On January 5, the company announced that users who were banned for flagged clips would “begin to have their bans lifted” and that work to resolve the issue was ongoing.
