British-Chinese violinist Leia Zhu received a lot of attention during her short life. This ambitious virtuoso has been featured by Harrison Parrott Artist Agency, performed in 17 countries, and written his own autobiography.
This morning she informed us of an important job change.
Dear friend,
Today I’m going to tell you a story about an important milestone in my life. I am now a certified financial advisor.
For many, this may seem like an unexpected leap from globe-trotting soloist to delving into the world of finance. But this transition is not a change of tune, but a harmonious blending of my lifelong passions.
Since childhood, I have been fascinated by the intricacies of finance, which reflect the complex melodies of music. The pandemic has created moments of introspection, with shuttered venues and silent stages, creating a cacophony in my life. That got me thinking about how to navigate economic uncertainty, especially in the arts, where income is often irregular. This curiosity led me on a journey of discovery.
Last year, I legally qualified at the age of 16 and enrolled on a course at the highly regarded London Institute of Banking and Finance (LIBF), which has over 140 years of experience in educating financial professionals. This step allowed me to delve deeper into financial research.
During my GCSEs I started pursuing a Level 4 Diploma in Financial Advisors (DipFA). This year has been a challenging but fulfilling year of balancing finances and music, merging financial scale and taxes with musical performance and investment.
Completing this qualification, in line with industry standards and FCA requirements, is my first step into the world of personal finance and wealth management.
As I approach my 18th birthday in October 2024, I realize that a direct client advisory role is not going to happen right away. However, my determination to gain knowledge and gain expertise in this field remains strong. In the meantime, I will apply the understanding I have developed to engage the public, and especially musicians, in a fun and educational way.
I aim to help people who may not be interested in learning the boring principles of finance at first, but need a little guidance to understand their financial situation. Topics such as how to budget effectively, how to save money, how to distinguish between good and bad debt, how to invest wisely no matter the amount, and how to protect yourself during economic downturns are very important. If you know of a person or organization with such needs, we would be happy to provide a presentation on these topics.
My goal is to make financial literacy accessible and engaging, demystifying these important concepts to people who might otherwise miss them. Through this work, we hope to give others the knowledge they need to make informed financial decisions.
Looking back at last year, I achieved A*s in all eight subjects I took at GCSE, achieved the Level 4 Diploma in Financial Advisor qualification, published my first book ‘Bows, Strings and Dreams’ and achieved number 1 in the world. Did. Ranked #2 on Amazon USA’s Teen & Young Adult Classical Music Bestseller list, #2 on Amazon UK’s Best Sellers list of Classical Music Books for Young Adults, and #2 on Amazon Australia’s Best Sellers list of Classical Music Books for Young Adults. Obtained. All of this took place within a busy travel schedule for musical activities. Not a bad year for a 16 year old!
This year is full of musical activities. We are very excited to share with you our debut performances in Armenia, Poland, and Ireland, a week-long stay in Abu Dhabi, return activities in Spain and Switzerland, concerts in our home base, and a tour in Italy. We are looking forward to our long-awaited debut, and we will share more details about it soon.
By living my dream life, traveling to over 20 countries, and delving deep into diverse cultures, I have learned valuable life skills such as discipline, clarity, time management, trust building, and effective communication. I was able to get Having witnessed the power of music to uplift people’s spirits and change people’s lives, I now hope to integrate this with my personal finance knowledge to make a meaningful contribution to society. My goal is to promote economic sustainability and empowerment through music, and I hope to inspire and support fellow musicians and others to achieve similar goals. Masu.
Thank you for listening to my journey and being a part of this symphony of lives and careers intersecting!
With gratitude and expectations,
Leia x
