HALLS, Tenn. (Washington) – The mother of Tristan Smith, a Halls High School counselor and employee who was shot and killed while trying to stop a shoplifter, has established a scholarship fund in his honor.
Smith, 23, was working at Rural King in Halls when he was shot and killed in December 2022 while trying to intervene with a shoplifter. After the incident, Larry McBee, 18, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder.
This scholarship will be awarded to a Halls High School graduate who shares the same passion for the theatrical arts as a Halls High School graduate. Scholarship recipients must be actively involved in theater arts at HHS or plan to pursue a degree or career in theater.
This scholarship aims to support and encourage students who share Tristan’s love of theater arts and wish to pursue it further.
This is a great way to commemorate Smith’s life and accomplishments by encouraging others to achieve dreams they unfortunately were unable to achieve themselves.
Tristan was an active member of the theatrical arts club and participated in many productions and performances. The GoFundMe description says he uses theater as a creative outlet and finds solace and joy in performing.
