Unless you’ve been avidly watching the DP World Tour’s 2024 Opening Round or played at Michael Jordan’s exclusive golf club, Grove XXIII in Hobe Sound, Florida, you’ve probably never heard of Ken Weyand. Maybe you’ve never done it before.
Weyand is listed online as President/GM/Director of Golf for Grove XXIII, a position he has held since November 2017, according to his LinkedIn profile. This week, he made a name for himself by competing in his 2024 Dubai Invitational (60-a-side no-cut event) as a sponsored invitee. The 54-year-old club pro lived up to his expectations against a professional field, hitting rounds of 87-82-82-86 and finishing best in 53 overs, a whopping 72 strokes behind winner Tommy Fleetwood. Finished in the bottom. Sweden’s Jens Duntrup finished in 59th place at 14 over, 39 strokes behind Weyand in last place. He only had two birdies all week.
Eddie Pepperell isn’t afraid to share his thoughts and took to social media to share his displeasure with Sponsorship Selection’s performance, writing, “I don’t care if he’s Barbie Ken. That shouldn’t happen. ” he wrote.
With limited Manfield, old man Ken Weyand accepts the invitation and does this. Even if he’s Ken from Barbie, that shouldn’t happen.

Earlier this week, Weyand’s playing partner Richard Mansell talked about what it’s like to play with a struggling invitational.
“Yeah, the last few days have been tough, but I’d be lying if I said it didn’t distract me,” Mansell said. “I saw Eddie’s post and read a few more comments and I understand where they are coming from. But the way I see it, this tournament won’t happen without sponsors. , the special two invitations, or whatever I received this week, I think you can invite whoever you want. That’s golf. But I feel for Matty Jordan.”
The man Mansell was referring to was Matthew Jordan, a home club kid who did well at Royal Liverpool’s British Open last year and was number one on the reserve list for the Dubai Invitational.
