CHEYENNE, Wyo. – In his budget letter to the Wyoming Legislature’s Joint Appropriations Committee (JAC), Governor Mark Gordon announced $30 million to ensure the long-term sustainability of the Wyoming Innovation Partnership (WIP). He asked for a dollar investment.
The WIP Initiative is a collaboration to align education and workforce development to boost Wyoming’s economy and address the workforce shortages facing many businesses.
“The success of WIP should not be underestimated,” Governor Gordon said in the letter. “For the first time, the University of Wyoming, the state’s eight community colleges, the Wyoming Business Council, the Wyoming Department of Labor Services, and the Wyoming Department of Education are bringing together education, workforce development, and industry to support Wyoming’s economy. Addressing development needs. Additionally, as students graduate, enter the workforce, and earn higher wages, the return on investment also increases. WIP also supports business startups and expansion in Wyoming. .”
The first two phases of WIP included the creation of Wyoming’s first applied software development degree. At Western Wyoming Community College, he successfully placed graduates of the WIP-enabled power line technology program into Wyoming’s workforce. and the establishment and expansion of multiple health care and nursing training programs at Wyoming community colleges.
Governor Gordon said the next phase of the WIP will focus on evaluating the sustainability of the programs developed and further coordinating efforts to support Wyoming’s thriving communities in the long term. .
“This is the vision we invested in last budget session, and seeing it through is critical to Wyoming’s workforce and future,” the governor wrote. “This will lead to the continued development of opportunities for people to stay and thrive in this great state.”
