Mr. Tacopina filed a notice in court on Monday asking his firm, Tacopina, Siegel & DeOreo, to resign from its role as Mr. Trump’s legal advisor in the hush money case.
He also wrote a letter to Judge Lewis Kaplan saying he would no longer represent Trump in his appeal against author E. Jean Carroll, who was ordered to pay the former president $5 million. said.

Multiple media outlets contacted by Tacopina reported that he declined to say why he broke up with Trump.
Tacopina’s resignation comes as the former president faces four criminal charges, including a hush-money case in New York.
President Trump has pleaded not guilty to charges of falsifying business records to hide payments to Daniels just before the 2016 election, and the case is scheduled to go to trial in March.
Susan Necheres is Trump’s lead lawyer in the case, but Tacopina has been a vocal advocate in the media, appearing on prime-time television to defend the former president. Attorney Todd Blanche is also on the defense team.
Tacopina is also representing Trump in a civil lawsuit against the former president against Carroll, who accused him of raping him in the 1990s and denying sexual assault allegations in 2022. He was accused of defamation.
Trump was found liable, and the jury ordered Carroll to pay $5 million in damages. Tacopina continued to represent Trump in his appeal of the ruling until Monday.
His resignation comes just before Trump faces another defamation lawsuit from Carroll, scheduled for trial in Manhattan on Tuesday. However, Tacopina did not represent Trump in this second case, and instead the former president retained Alina Haba and Michael Madaio as attorneys.
Tacopina was a key figure on Trump’s legal team and was responsible for a list of high-profile court victories. His clients included Fox News host Sean Hannity, rapper A$AP Rocky, pop legend Michael Jackson, and former Major League star Alex Rodriguez.
Some customers praised him publicly. For example, Hannity called Tacopina one of the “greatest defense attorneys of all time,” according to the New York Times.
In a statement carried by various media outlets, President Trump’s press secretary, Stephen Chan, did not address Tacopina’s resignation on Monday, but said the former president “continues to fight for America and for us. “We are assembling the most experienced, qualified, disciplined and overall strongest legal team ever.” The American people are against these partisan and perverse Joe Biden-led election interference hoaxes. ”
