After experiencing an unthinkable tragedy that took the life of their beloved son Raylan, Nicole Barr and her husband Jeff were forced to make many difficult conversations and decisions. Many were exhausting and none were important, but one of them would bring to life the impact Raylan had on the world.
Raylan Barr was an eternally happy angelic child who would jump out of bed and tackle whatever plans he had for the day. Turning his “kind face” towards those closest to him, he walked with a joyful exaltation of his life, bringing smiles and positivity to those around him. Whether it’s helping his father grow tomatoes, blowing a kiss to his mother from the school window, or going fishing with dad and dad, he finds joy in his life and brings joy to others. brought about.
In every scene, Raylan’s personality was on full display and at full speed, and there were few opportunities for the young redhead to miss to make the world a brighter place.
Unfortunately, Raylan’s time spent laughing with his loved ones came to a sad end when Raylan was found unconscious in a pool during a Labor Day party. A child so young, happy and promising, passed away on September 6, 2023 at the Oisei Children’s Hospital when he was 4 years old.
After Raylan’s death, his family contacted the Chautauqua Area Community Foundation and established an endowment fund in Raylan’s name. The Raylan Barr Water Safety Accessibility Fund is a donor-advised fund that supports affordable access to youth water safety programs and provides personal flotation devices to local communities.
“We aim to prevent water-related accidents and deaths, spread awareness about the importance of water safety, and make our communities safer,” said Nicole Barr. “We know what it’s like to experience the loss of a child, and we’re on a mission to help others avoid the same unfathomable tragedy.”
While saving lives and supporting local communities is at the heart of the Raylan Barr Water Safety Fund, this initiative will give the Barr family a new sense of purpose and pride.
“Raylan’s smile and personality were too bright for him to quit after just four years,” his mother said. “By establishing an endowment fund, Raylan’s name will forever be associated with efforts to save the lives of children across our region. What would his legacy be otherwise?” I can’t imagine what it would have been like, but it’s clear that we’ll see the light of day in what direction it goes in the future.”
