Story: This food waste is converted into fuel that can be used again for cooking and even heating this house.

That’s thanks to a local company in Benin that is converting everyday biowaste into a powerful energy source.
Enock Gnaga is the founder of Benin Biogas.
His team is revolutionizing the way hundreds of homes and more than a dozen farms manage waste and energy.
“On this farm, all waste from livestock and processed products is recovered as gas products, with the logic being that they can not only power the oven, oven whisk, cooking and toasting, but also generate electricity. ”
Benin Biogas has built a network of concrete tanks underground in neighborhoods and industrial areas.
They act as reactors and convert organic waste into biogas. Biogas is a methane-rich energy source that currently powers more than 560 homes.
Gunaga says his inspiration came during his school days…one day he saw a candle accidentally fall into a garbage can.
“When it caught fire, I wondered what it was. I talked to my environmental chemistry professor and got interested. Then he told me it was okay and that it was biogas.”
The company can also provide 24-hour off-grid power in some areas.
And by converting compost waste into high-quality fertilizer, we support local agriculture and reduce farmers’ dependence on expensive and potentially damaging imported substitutes.
Gunaga says he knows this is not the complete end of fossil fuels.
However, the world is grappling with climate change and finding sustainable energy solutions…
He hopes his complete waste-to-energy cycle will spark a new approach to environmental management in Benin.
