SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) – Bay Area sports bars are gearing up for this Saturday’s big game between the 49ers and Packers. For small businesses, now is a good time to make a lot of money.
“We’re ordered and ready to go. Tables are starting to get booked. Yeah, we’re excited for sure,” said Rec Room bartender Evan Fry.
Frey said he expects the bar room on California Street to be filled with 49er faithful.
Of course, most locations will be home for Red and Gold fans, but KRON4 has also found a safe haven for Green and Gold fans. A few blocks from Oracle Park, Local Tap is the official Packers facility for Bay Area cheeseheads.
“Honestly, I think every bar in the Bay Area is going to be packed because of this game, because this game is so big and what’s at stake, I think a lot of Packers fans are going to be here. I think it’s great for business,” said Paul Cardinale, owner and Packers shareholder.
Cardinale said he is fielding calls from fans from Wisconsin who want to visit, which could be good for San Francisco’s image. He said Niners fans are always welcome at the local tap, and with the two teams meeting for a record 10th time in the playoffs, it’s almost becoming a tradition.
“We joke about it,” Cardinale said. “We duct tape them with red tape on one side and green tape on the other side. It’s kind of stuck to the side as a joke, but everyone’s friendly. They get along with each other.”
