On May 27th, an SUV crashed into the building, leaving the Barra restaurant with devastating damage. According to Amherst police, the accident occurred around 4:30 a.m. when a Volkswagen traveling at high speed crashed into the Barra restaurant.
The driver, 18-year-old Connor Cody, and his 16-year-old male passenger suffered minor injuries.
Taco shop owner Aaron Byington was tasked with picking up the pieces.
“They came to the street and fell asleep, but they just kept going through the building. The scary thing at the moment is that if they touch something, it could cause a domino effect,” Byington said. he told Fox 8 News at the time of the accident.
Byington said in a June 2023 interview with FOX 8 that the damage caused by the crash was immeasurable. But he’s just grateful that everyone involved made it out safely.
The last day to enjoy Amherst’s Barra Restaurant will be Sunday, Jan. 21, according to a Facebook post Thursday.
