Entrepreneur sues ex-girlfriend for breach of marriage promise
In an interesting twist of love and devotion, a Ghanaian entrepreneur known as Otu has started a lawsuit against his ex-girlfriend, Mercy Agye, for breaking his promise to marry her. This happened after Otu financially supported Mercy and her family for six years in hopes of securing a future for her marriage.
Otu financial support
Their relationship began in the city of Kumasi, where Otu proposed and financed Mercy’s university education. He moved his girlfriend to Tema and continued to support her in pursuing her tertiary education at two prestigious educational institutions: the Accra Institute of Technology and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. Otu’s financial support went beyond her education to Mercy. This young entrepreneur set up a business for Marcie’s mother and also provided financial support to Marcie’s brother.
However, things changed when Marcy secured a job at a bank. After her employment, she ended her relationship and Otu felt betrayed. In response, the entrepreneur filed a lawsuit in the Kumasi Circuit Court, seeking GHG350,000 as compensation for the money he had spent on Mercy and her family on the basis of her marriage promise.
public reaction
The news sparked mixed reactions on social media. While some sympathize with Otu’s plight and support his decision to seek legal recourse, others find the situation amusing. The case mirrors a similar incident reported by YEN.com.gh, in which a woman sued First Atlantic Bank and her former boss for failing to honor the terms of their relationship.
The court adjourned further proceedings until February 20, and the public is looking forward to the outcome of this unusual case.
