The Utah Jazz are focused on recruiting international players.
“We have scouts all over the world. We have scouts in almost every basketball country in the world,” team CEO and Governor Danny Ainge said Friday on CNBC’s “Halftime Report.” Ta.
The two-time National Basketball Association champion and former NBA All-Star emphasized that he has scouts in every region of the United States, as well as countries in South America, Europe and Asia.
“This is a global sport and we have to find them all,” he said.
His comments came after the NBA announced in October that its opening roster for the 2023-24 season would include a record 125 international players, including five with the Utah Jazz. These players hail from his 40 countries and territories on six continents, with Canada holding the record with 26 and France with his 14.
All 30 NBA teams will have at least one international player this season.
International ticket sales also increased 120% from last season, according to StubHub. Fans are watching North American games from a total of 92 countries, up from 68 countries last season.
Ainge joined the Utah Jazz as CEO in December 2021 after leading basketball operations for the Boston Celtics for 18 years.
The Utah Jazz are currently valued at $3.09 billion, according to data from research firm Statista. This is a 52.59% increase over last year and a 76.57% increase from the year Ainge joined the franchise.
