Today, the women’s team welcomed its fifth World Cup GS winner of the season. Swedish Olympic champion Sarah Hector, who recently achieved her first podium in slalom, dominated the day, winning by (-1.52). She used her fastest second run to surpass world best Mikaela Shiffrin.

Friendly and well-liked, Hector loved the racing surfaces, courses and spectators. Her good feelings led to her skiing master class at GS.

“It feels great,” the 31-year-old said. She had not won a World Cup race since January 25, 2022, when she won the giant slalom at Kronplatz. She was two weeks away from winning the Olympic title in Beijing. She also said, “She feels very sorry for Petra.”

“The snow was perfect. Great race. I had a lot of fun skiing today,” said Hector. “I feel like my setup is very suitable for the ice. Everything went well today.”

Shiffrin

Shiffrin ran a second fast final run and appeared to have done enough to threaten Hector. But Hector, who was one second faster than Shiffrin in the morning, was (-0.52) faster in the afternoon. The 2024 Women’s World Cup GS continues to deliver compelling results, adding drama to her GS title win of the season.

“It was just fun watching her ski,” Shiffrin said. “You just have to step back and say, ‘This is really cool to watch.'”

alice robinson

New Zealander Alice Robinson, a 22-year-old veteran, took her second podium of the season and seventh of her career.

Robinson said: “In the second run, I knew I had to push, but I made a few mistakes at the start and thought, ‘Maybe I should rewind a little bit,’ because there was a big gap in the second run.”Fourth . ”

The excitement of the podium usually begins with the final 10 racers skating out. Today, however, Croatia’s Zlinka Ljutic, who was fourth on the first run, took the lead, knowing that she was likely to finish fourth at the start. She definitely recognized that all the women remaining at the top had a significant time advantage.

Robinson was the first of the three to ski, and he did not disappoint. She attacked the entire course, just like she had on every run she’d ever skied. Robinson finished with a commanding (-1.62) lead.

But Shiffrin was determined to do everything she could to overcome Hector’s deficit in the first run. Shiffrin’s skiing was excellent and she finished ahead of Robinson (-1.19). But as with the first run, no one could match Hector.

Petra Vlhovaseason ends

The biggest news of the day was the injury to Slovakia star Petra Vlhova.

“Thank you to everyone for your support,” Vulois said in a statement released by the team. “I am confident that I can handle this situation. I will fight to return as soon as possible.”

Unfortunately, Slovakian superstar Petra Vlhova collapsed in front of 35,000 fans. Her knee ligament injury would mean the end of her season and the end of her much-needed rotational competition with Shiffrin. The sports world has benefited from her performances and she will be sorely missed.

AJ Hart of the Stifel US Ski Team earned his second top-10 finish. The 23-year-old rising star shows that she is part of the world’s elite. Today she achieved the best GS of her career and finished 7th (+4.60). The rising star has shown speed throughout the season and she is now able to take that speed to the finish.

Canadian Valérie Grenier won the latest giant slalom of the season in Kranjska Gora. She is one of the best athletes in the world and today was her disappointing first run. Grenier became the ninth skier to run the second course. She ran much better than her performance in the morning and finished in the lead. Grenier could defend the leader’s chair over the next 10 racers and move up 11 positions up the leaderboard to finish 11th (+6.05). The second run was the fourth fastest.

The woman who could knock Grenier off the lead was Norwegian speed star Kaisa Vikhof-Lee. She used the starting number she earned by scoring over 500 points in the speed event. However, in her first World Cup GS, she finished the day in 10th place (+5.52).

Stifel U.S. Ski Team’s Paula Molzahn also struggled on the morning course. Although he couldn’t match Grenier’s effort, he moved up five places to finish 16th (+6,74).

large time difference

Today’s time difference between 1st and 5th place was (+4.40). The difference with the 10th place player was (+5.52), and the difference between the players was (+8.74).

Another skier who moved up 11 places in the afternoon was Sweden’s Lisa Nyberg, who finished 12th.

Sara Hector achieved an overwhelming performance and won her first GS win of the season, marking her fifth World Cup GS win in total. Outperforming her formidable Mikaela Shiffrin, Hector established her dominance. Featuring established yet youthful talent in Alice Robinson and rising star AJ Hart, the 2024 Women’s World Cup GS promises an exhilarating challenge for the season title. Fans witnessed a fascinating blend of experience and new talent, setting the stage for thrilling competition ahead.

However, the big news of the day was the injury to Slovakia star Petra Vlhova. If she were to be unable to skate tomorrow, her chances of winning the slalom title this season would be very different. She is the only skier to challenge Shiffrin’s rotational dominance.
