President Joe Biden visited Raleigh Thursday afternoon and spoke to an intimate crowd at the Abbotts Creek Community Center about infrastructure, health care and the economy. Biden spoke about his administration’s efforts to create higher-paying jobs, increase support for small businesses and lower costs across the board. But his main message was about the Internet.
“Small businesses need the internet to reach more customers,” Biden said. Seniors need it to connect with their doctors through telemedicine. High-speed internet is no longer a luxury. It is absolutely necessary. ”
Biden said the American Rescue Plan would lead to additional investments in high-speed internet.
“We will invest an additional $82 million to connect 16,000 more homes and businesses and bring high-speed internet to all of North Carolina.”
Biden said his goal is to have “universal high-speed internet” across North Carolina by 2030.
“We have thousands of people working to install fiber optic cable across America, and much of that cable will be manufactured in North Carolina,” he said.
After the Retired Sergeant Event, Private First Class Edward Smith introduced the Chairman and spoke to the WPTF. He said Biden’s message of bringing jobs resonated with him.
“I’m really worried about the future. As you know, employment is increasing.”
