Nextleaf’s main product monitors plant health in indoor growing environments
Santa Cruz-based Neatleaf has raised $4 million in a funding round led by AgFunder, an investor focused on the foodtech and agritech space.
Neetleaf, which specializes in agricultural technology, said it would use the funding to strengthen its cultivation management platform.
The company’s flagship product, Neatleaf Spyder, is an autonomous robotic system designed to monitor plant health in indoor growing environments. The system collects data on plant growth and health, which is processed to aid crop management.
Neatleaf founder and CEO Elmar Mair said the company’s technology focuses on leveraging data to improve crop production. According to Mair, the Neatleaf Spyder is designed to identify potential problems in crop growth at an early stage.

The technology developed by Neatleaf aims to provide insight into plant health before such problems become apparent to the naked eye. It also allows analysis of growth conditions across different cycles and different facilities.
Tom Shields, a partner at AgFunder who will join Neatleaf’s board of directors, emphasized the role of data in advancing agriculture. Mr. Shields noted that Neetleaf’s approach to data collection could contribute to increased crop yields.
