Engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor Mortenson began construction about three years ago, with the first phase, representing about half of the total production capacity, coming online at the end of 2021.

Another notable energy storage project from Terra-Gen is the 140MW/560MWh Valley Center BESS, also located in California, which made headlines in 2023 for the wrong reasons (such as battery fires and theft of used batteries) became the headline.
