Moschino today announced the appointment of Buenos Aires-born Adrian Apiolaza as its new creative director. The highly-regarded 51-year-old Argentine is believed to have recently moved to Milan from Paris to fine-tune the first collection to be launched under his name later this month. Mr. Apiolaza’s appointment to Moschino makes him the successor to Italian designer Davide Renne, who passed away suddenly in November after just 10 days in the position.

Apiolaza has long been at the helm of the company after a varied and distinguished apprenticeship at Creative Below Deck. His most recent job was at Loewe, where he was director of ready-to-wear design for 10 years. Before that, he spent two years under Marc Jacobs at Louis Vuitton, four years under Miuccia Prada at Miu Miu, which he joined in 2006, and two years under underrated Clare Waight Keller at Chloé. Worked for a year.
“Phoebe Philo changed the course of my career,” Apiolaza added in the note. At the turn of the 2000s Alexander Alexander was working as his junior designer at McQueen and Miguel Adrover, and the young Appia Rosa was also enrolled at his Martins in London’s Central Saint.
