FIFA has begun touring countries that have confirmed their bid to host the 2027 Women’s World Cup.
The United States and Mexico confirmed their bid to co-host in December. There is also a joint European bid between Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands. Brazil was the last country to submit a formal bid by the December 8 deadline.
On-site visits to the bidding countries are the next step in the process, and FIFA said in a statement that it would also “meet” with the respective federations to assess specific technical aspects included in the bid and discuss the overall plan. It has been confirmed that the event will be held. “Development of women’s soccer in each country.”
The visit will begin on January 30th and is expected to be completed by February 29th.
The results of the inspection process are expected to be reported in May 2024 as part of the world football governing body’s ‘Tender Evaluation’ report.
The host country will then be appointed through a public vote by the FIFA Parliament to be held in Bangkok, Thailand on May 17th.
The United States hosted the tournament in 1999 and 2003, and Germany became the host nation in 2011.
The 2023 World Cup, hosted by Australia and New Zealand and won by Spain, was the first women’s tournament to be held across two countries, but the tournament across Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany was the first to be held in three countries. That will happen.
The Women’s World Cup has never been held in South America, so if Brazil is selected, it will make history.
