Knights said, “The media has recently amplified several high-profile incidents across a variety of sectors that demonstrate the harmful workplace experiences that many Black women face. While we have addressed challenges such as microaggressions and workplace discrimination, we have been underrepresented in leadership roles for some time. These recent headlines further highlight our obstacles in public life. Inspired by Black women who go through such experiences every day. We need a safe space to process and grapple with these experiences in community with other Black women. Our programs and conferences provide a space for Black women to center themselves and determine the path forward despite these challenges.”
Recent research has detailed this difficult workplace experience. The current state of black women in corporate America Report shows Black women have the worst experiences in the workplace (bend downMcKinsey & Company 2020), because they are often paid less, underrepresented in leadership roles, and experience more discrimination.
Similarly, the Thriving Black Women report (Leadership at All Levels, 2022) found that 88% of Black women reported having unclear job expectations, a negative work environment, a lack of opportunities for advancement, and poor relationships with their superiors. have been shown to report experiencing burnout as a result of bad relationships.
Despite these obstacles, research shows that Black women are still motivated to seek higher leadership roles within organizations. “The data clearly supports the need for unique responses to meet the unique needs of Black women in the workplace.
We help Black women overcome these challenges. This event is just one way we are supporting this vitally important effort. We look forward to a truly transformative experience for all participants,” said Knights.
