Canmore, Alberta — Jesse Diggins won the 15-kilometre World Cup ski event on Friday, a week before the tour stopped in his home state of Minnesota.
Diggins’ time was 40 minutes and 26 seconds, giving her her fifth win of the season with a 2.6 second difference over second place Delphine Claudel (France). Heidi Wen of Norway was third with a time of 40:29.3.

Sophia Laukry finished second among the Americans and eighth overall with a time of 40:34.6.

Diggins, 32, helped the U.S. team win its first Olympic gold medal in cross-country skiing six years ago in PyeongChang, South Korea, when he and Kikkan Randall won the team sprint. Since then, Diggins has made it his mission to bring the World Cup to Minneapolis, and next weekend that goal will become a reality.
The race will be held on February 17th and 18th at Theodore Wirth Park overlooking downtown Minneapolis, and will be the tour’s first U.S. event in 23 years.
Diggins grew up in Afton, Minnesota, about 30 miles east of the course.
