It’s been almost a year since Romeo Esho and his friends began their journey to open a Korean corn dog joint at 2677 Geer Rd. In Turlock. But the long-awaited grand opening arrived on Tuesday with much fanfare.

Hundreds of people attended the store’s grand opening celebration. Most people had never eaten Korean corn dogs. Korean corn dogs are customized corn dogs with non-traditional toppings and fillings. Corn’d staff offers customers the option of injecting the inside of each corn dog with a variety of cheeses, meats, or chips, and offers sweet or spicy toppings to cover the outside dough. Vegan, plant-based, and gluten-free options are also available.
Korean corn dogs are all the rage on social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok, with some posts racking up millions of views. Esho and his group of friends decided to jump into the corn dog scene last year. In an interview with the Turlock Journal in March, he explained that his group of friends experiment with corn dogs while traveling or vacationing.
“We just love corn dogs,” he said. “Who doesn’t like corn dogs?”
Esho explained that the delay in opening was due to changes in contractors and permit approvals. He gave a lot of credit to Turlock city officials for helping him solve problems he encountered.
“It feels great to know we’re open,” he said. “We are ready to contribute to the community. Nothing has stopped us from being here. We are ready to do it for our families and provide a good time. I am.”
The renovated space is filled with odes to all things cosmic. There are life-sized astronauts dressed in modern streetwear. Reprinted newspaper clippings from Apollo 11. There’s also a selfie wall and arcade game machines.

“The overall theme of Corn’d is futuristic,” Esho explained. “I love futuristic things. I’m into cryptocurrencies myself. We wanted to focus on the moon and space because it’s so fascinating. I love spaceflight. I love space. And honestly, one bite of these corn dogs will transport you to another place.”
Amanda Alfaro and Perla Perez of Turlock celebrate becoming Condo’s first customers by taking a selfie with the store’s selfie machine (photo provided).
First in line Tuesday were Amanda Alfaro and Perla Perez of Turlock, who lined up chairs and waited nearly seven hours for the doors to open.
“We got here at 11 o’clock and we’re so excited because we used to go to places like Sacramento and Stockton (to get Korean corn dogs).” Then Modesto did it. I was going to Modesto because I got it,” Alfaro said of Mochinut in Modesto. “Obviously, now that we have that facility here in Turlock, it’s better for me and for other people. It’s great.”
The line for Tuesday’s grand opening stretched from the storefront to near Turlock Comics.
“This is a great day,” Esho said. “People are excited to try these corn dogs. We encourage you to try them. It’s unlike anything you’ll taste. We ask the community to be patient. . These are popular, so please be patient. We won’t let you down.”
