Bayern Munich’s match against Bochum, which lost 3-2, was briefly suspended due to fan protests over a proposed private equity investment as the Bavarian giants fell further behind league leaders Bayer Leverkusen.
The match was forced to be stopped early after a Bochum fan threw a tennis ball onto the field. As soon as it was cleared, Bayern Munich supporters threw more tennis balls at them from their section, and referee Daniel Schlager instructed both teams to return to their locker rooms. Fans also chanted insults against the German Football League (DFL).

The match resumed approximately 13 minutes later. Fans across Germany have been protesting during matches against a proposed deal that would see the league’s future stake sold to private equity investors.
In previous protests, apples and chocolate coins have been thrown onto the pitch. On Friday, a remote-controlled car was forced to wind around the penalty area during Werder Bremen’s 1-0 win over FC Köln, and last week, a fan attached a bicycle padlock to a goal post, leading to second-tier Hamburg. The match against Hannover was suspended. Officials cut the lock with an electric saw.
Bayern Munich’s defeat has put pressure on manager Thomas Tuchel as his team’s chances of winning their 12th consecutive league title look increasingly unlikely. Bayern Munich are eight points behind Xabi Alonso’s unbeaten Leverkusen team.
Bayern took the lead in the 14th minute when German international Jamal Musiala found the back of the net from a narrow angle, and Bochum began to turn the tide.
Takuma Asano equalized and Kevin Schlotterbeck made it 2-1 with a stunning header just before halftime.
Kevin Steger’s penalty in the 85th minute made it 3-1, and Harry Kane’s tap-in in the 94th minute was just a consolation.
