The Yampa River Foundation is a community-based collaboration dedicated to identifying and funding activities that protect the water supply, aquatic habitat, and diverse beneficial opportunities provided by the Yampa River.
Established in September 2019, the River Fund was created by a partnership of 21 public, private and nonprofit organizations representing the entire Yampa River Basin and established a Board of Directors to manage the Fund.
“In its fifth year, the Yampa River Fund continues to provide grants each year that fund important projects that benefit our river,” said Yampa River Fund Manager Mike Robertson. I’m excited about it.” “We all have a connection to the Yampa River, and the River Fund is taking action to ensure water security and river health for all of us and future generations.”
The River Fund invests in conservation and restoration efforts that positively impact the flow of the Yampa River and support natural resource-based livelihoods such as agriculture and recreation throughout the watershed. We also work to ensure a healthy, flowing Yampa River remains the center of our community’s prosperity for generations to come.
Projects prioritized for funding include: Strengthen water security for the Yampa Valley’s communities, agriculture, economy, and natural environment. Support healthy, flowing rivers and enhance critical low flows by leasing water from reservoirs. and maintain or improve river function through an integrated approach to riparian and/or in-channel habitat restoration.
The Yampa River Fund Steering Committee is expected to make a funding decision by mid-May.
