MILWAUKEE COUNTY (CBS 58) — While the warm winter is making things tough for some businesses, others are thriving.
Temperatures were in the mid-50s on Wednesday, so many people wore light jackets outside and visited the rink.
“Warmer weather. Golfers are itching to get out and play golf. And the biggest thing that will really help us is as the name of the golf course gets more and more out there and more people are looking for other open courses. I think there is,” he said. Michael Zirzlaff, Head Golf Professional at Grant Park Golf Course.
Most golf courses are still closed for the season, but Grant Park is open due to unseasonably warm weather. Officials say the start of the year hasn’t been this busy since 2017.
“Thursday is our next busy day, but Sunday will be just as busy as today. Sunday’s tee seats were sold out within two hours of opening,” Zirzlaff said.
The weather has also caused traffic jams at local car washes.
“I don’t think there are many things more rewarding than having a clean car,” said Blake Ketner, Tsunami Express Car Wash’s vice president of operations. It opened on time. They are offering free washes over the next few days as part of their grand opening and expect to remain busy for the rest of the season through spring.
“It’s very calm here. When the weather changes a little bit and the sun comes out, people love to come and clean their cars. So with favorable weather conditions, we’ve been working hard for the past three years to make sure we’re open. “We worked really hard for ~4 weeks,” said Kettner, “arriving on time and certainly getting off to a good start on the day.”
