OLYMPIC VALLEY — The World Cup Ski Races at Palisades Tahoe this weekend will get a great boost with a musical headliner Saturday night.
The Stifel Palisades Tahoe Cup at Palisades is one of the big events you’ll see on the north side of Lake Tahoe this year, and it’s not just for skiers competing for World Cup points. That’s because one of their musical acts performed at the Super Bowl and surprised everyone.
Palisades officials were in the midst of planning World Cup events when they were surprised by rapper Ludacris at Sunday’s Super Bowl.
Fresh off a show with Usher, the Atlanta-based artist is set to perform at the Palisades on Saturday, and athletes are taking notice.
“I was really surprised,” Tommy Ford said. “I’ll definitely stop by and check out Luda.”
For executives like Dubliner Randy Rogers, this will be a huge boost.
“This is a free show, so it’s really, really great to be able to offer that to the audience,” Rogers said.
Rogers said the crew is always ready for an event like this to take place.
“When I have a big event at night, I hire the best bartender in town,” he said. “So I can’t wait for this. I’m excited.”
Loomis residents Katherine and Ian Carter are looking forward to the weekend.
“I knew he was coming before the Super Bowl, but I was like, ‘How did the Palisades get Ludacris?'” That’s a big takeaway! ” said Katherine Carter.
Palisades announcer John Haynes said this World Cup had an opportunity to bring in a new generation of fans.
“Many Northern Californians have never seen an international ski race, so we’ll explain what’s possible and the excitement will get them hooked,” he said.
Ludacris is scheduled to perform at KT Base Bar from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.
