$200,000 approval for motivateda marketing initiative for online student outreach, was passed by the board on Thursday, Feb. 22, among other items.

Motimatic, Felpa The complaint service, which uses personal emails and phone numbers to serve City College advertising on students’ social media, was part of a series of budgeting and marketing items extracted from the agreement. agenda For discussion at Thursday night’s meeting.

The Board of Directors is comprised of elected officials representing the City College School District from Goleta to Carpinteria. Adoption of the consent agenda includes topics within Human Resources, Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, School of Extended Study and Business Services.

Motimatic is designed to meet students online no matter where they are, said Jordan Killebrew, executive director of public affairs and communications.

“I vote against [Motimatic]and I think it’s a complete waste of money and inconsistent,” said Trustee Veronica Gallardo.

According to Killebrew, the purpose of using Motimatic is to re-engage with students who have left City College and retain those students when they re-enroll.

Expected revenue is more than $600,000, Killebrew said.

“We’re getting three times what we spend, and we’re also benefiting from all of our students coming back and getting an education,” said board member Robert Miller.

The board voted “yes” to approve Motimatic, but Gallardo expected it to vote “no.”

Nonresident tuition at City College has increased by $10 for the 2024-2025 academic year, following board approval of $361 per credit tuition for all out-of-state students.

Starting fees for non-resident students are expected to be higher next year, according to City College Vice President Brian Fahnestock.

However, the district recommended that colleges set their own fees. The Board of Directors’ agenda indicates a slow and moderate increase compared to the previous year. ”

“We are very grateful to be able to get the lowest price.” [City College] Maybe even international students could do it,” said student director Sophia Koford.

All board members voted “yes” to approve the new fees.

The board approved a contract with Wells Marketing for the summer and fall of 2024 totaling $162,899.

According to the board’s agenda, Wells Marketing is a vendor that leverages established relationships with a variety of media outlets to obtain ideal value and placement for City College advertising.

Gallardo said advertising at the Santa Barbara Airport is a waste of money.

“Tens of thousands of dollars to move from Santa Barbara is simply not the amount or market for the people we are supposed to serve. [at City College]” said Gallardo.

Trustee Miller added that there are “numerous” areas within the media that could be used for advertising, not just the airport.

“People who are not at the airport [are] These are gardeners who come back after going to Montecito or Hope Ranch,” Gallardo said. “The buddies, the cooks, the line workers…these are the people who don’t hang out at the airport.”

Trustee Anna Everett gave the board a final response regarding Gallardo’s disapproval.

“We don’t know if people in janitors or manual labor or other types of working-class jobs are flying, but we’re not going to assume that they’re not flying,” Everett said. said.

The board of directors voted “yes” on the marketing agreement, with the exception of one “no” from Gallardo.

The Board of Directors will hold its next regular meeting on Thursday, March 7th.
