Darius van Driel scored a breakthrough victory on the DP World Tour with a two-stroke victory at the Magical Kenya Open.
The Dutchman recorded a four-under 67 at Muthaiga Golf Club with an eagle, three birdies, and one bogey, finishing the week at 14 under, two behind Nacho Elvira and England’s Joe Dean.
Van Driel lost his DP World Tour card last year but made it through the qualifying school to secure his place in the 2024 season, and the 34-year-old’s win makes him the first wire winner of that campaign.
“That means a lot, I never thought about it. [winning] It’s going to hit us so hard,” Van Driel said. “It was a dream come true. I kept my emotions calm the whole time, but after the last putt everything came out.”
Van Driel, who started the day tied for the lead with Manuel Elvira, moved forward with an eagle on the par-5 10th and a birdie on the third, then added three more birdies on the next back nine before making bogey. I wrote it off.
Dean birdied three of the final six holes, the best result of his career, but compatriot Matthew Jordan shot a final-round 66, dropping him one stroke back into a tie for fourth place.
Jordan finished on 11 under along with Elvira and Adrian Otegui, with Scottish duo Conor Syme and Ewen Ferguson in seventh place.
