Camden, NJ, February 26, 2024–(BUSINESS WIRE)–New Jersey American Water recently announced its 2023 year-end total investment in system improvements. During the year, more than $507 million was invested to fund critical system upgrades and improvement projects across the company’s service areas.

New Jersey American Water invests millions of dollars in its infrastructure each year. This includes both treatment and distribution, i.e. maintenance and upgrading of pipeline systems. This includes investing in treatment plants, tanks, pumping stations, miles of pipes, water mains, fire hydrants, and metering equipment.
Highlights of system improvements in 2023 include:

Main power supply: The company has invested $175 million to install, replace, or repair more than 91 miles of trunk lines. Pipe improvement projects can help improve water quality, pressure, fire protection, and service reliability. Additionally, New Jersey American Water has invested approximately $2.76 million in leak detection equipment to enhance its ability to respond to leaks and breaks.

Improving raw water, treatment and other production systems: New Jersey American Water spent more than $28 million on improvements to its water treatment facilities, including:

Jumping Brook Water Treatment Plant – Treatment Improvements

Canal Road Water Treatment Plant – Water intake upgrade and alum tank replacement

fire hydrant: The company replaced 458 hydrants and 1,723 valves, representing an investment of approximately $17.8 million.

service line: New Jersey American Water replaced 13,776 service lines with an investment of approximately $87.8 million.

Tank/Storage: New Jersey American Water invested a total of approximately $10.1 million to rehabilitate five tanks and conduct detailed inspections of 40 tanks.
