New scholarship aims to encourage young women to pursue careers in finance
Overland Park, Kansas, February 27, 2024–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Prime Capital Investment Advisors (PCIA) is poised to create real change on the issue of gender disparity in financial services. As a result, they are establishing the Future of Finance Scholarship Fund, a scholarship for current students and college-bound women who want to pursue a degree or career in finance.
“At PCIA, we strongly believe that women are underrepresented across the industry,” said Glenn Spencer, CEO of PCIA. She said: “I am very proud to introduce the Financial Futures Scholarship Fund, which will provide vital support and inspiration to talented young women seeking a career in finance.”
The scholarship fund was created by Spencer and Terra McBride, PCIA’s chief marketing officer, who has championed opportunities for women in finance throughout her career.
“Having worked in this industry for over 10 years, I see that we have an opportunity to evolve and better reflect the communities we serve. We are invested in supporting women in their pursuits,” McBride said. “The launch of this scholarship fund is a tangible way we are empowering young women, tackling the gender gap in financial services head-on and building a stronger, more diverse industry.”
Spencer and McBride were inspired to create this scholarship after recognizing the lack of gender diversity among financial advisors. “We need to make changes, not just fill capacity. Glenn and I agree that talent and diversity are not mutually exclusive. We need a more diverse talent pool. “This allows us to hire talented advisors from diverse backgrounds,” she said.
The financial advisory industry has long been misunderstood and mistrusted, and the idea that there is no helping people in financial services is ingrained in women from a young age. The Future of Finance Scholarship Fund offers financial services as an attractive career path for young women. “We want to show that this is an industry where women can have a fulfilling career while making a real impact on people’s lives,” McBride said. “Financial advisors provide important guidance to help everyday people reach their goals, and that message needs to reach more women.”
This scholarship was launched with a focus on encouraging more women to enter the financial services industry. The board’s vision is to expand the fund to focus on both women and people of color.
Applications for The Future of Finance Scholarship Fund are open until May 31, 2024. The fund is sponsored by Prime Capital Investment Advisors, Spencer Fane, and Bow River Capital.
