Lake Charles, Louisiana (kulfi) — The owner of a Lake Charles cheerleading training school has been charged with stealing money from customers, authorities said.
Financial crimes detectives with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested Jamie K. Crawford, 42, of Lake Charles, owner of Lake Charles Cheer Training, on suspicion of theft.
Investigators say she collected money from customers for services that were never provided, totaling about $3,900. The victims previously asked for refunds, but Crawford did not respond. Crawford is also said to have used the victim’s credit card, which was kept at the store for monthly support payments, to make fraudulent charges. Purchases totaling more than $1,500 were purchased at local veterinarian practices, emergency animal clinics, and pet groomers.
Detectives said Crawford admitted he was collecting money for services he didn’t provide. She denied using the victim’s card for personal use. Authorities said all charges benefited Crawford or her pets.
Crawford was arrested Monday and booked into Calcasieu Correctional Center on three counts of theft between $1,000 and $5,000. Her bond was set at $30,000, but was later changed to her own recognizance. She remains in custody at this time on an outstanding warrant unrelated to these charges, officials said.
