NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A local man is proud of Middle Tennessee. Nashville tech entrepreneur Avesh De was shaken by ABC’s huge investment in Shark Tank.
De showed News 2 his invention Flora and his way of giving back to Music City. He admits he wasn’t born a green person.
“It wasn’t like that before. Not at all,” De said. “I was quite the opposite. Let me tell you, I was a serial plant killer.”

What Dae lacked in gardening skills, she made up for in curiosity. A self-proclaimed “die-hard nerd” since childhood, with an interest in DIY electronics and a passion for becoming a better gardener, De started tinkering a few years ago.
“They looked like this green LED light and this weird looking mess of wires. But for me, that was everything. It was an ‘Oh my god’ moment. I can. ‘”
He created Flora, a patented gadget and app that teaches people how to care for indoor and outdoor plants.
“This is essentially a life alert for the plant. It tells you exactly what moisture, light, temperature and other important elements the plant needs to grow,” says De. . “Whether it’s an indoor plant or an outdoor garden.”

To raise funds and grow his plant care consumer brand, De featured his product on ABC’s popular entrepreneur show Shark Tank.
“Just being able to see the ‘sharks’ live was a truly magical moment,” De said.
And he also bit the shark, Lori Greiner.
“We were able to strike a deal with her. She agreed to pay us $300,000 for 15%, plus a 5% advisory stake and a royalty agreement,” De said. Told. “I couldn’t be more pleased with the result.”
Now back in Nashville, De shares his business knowledge with students at the school to inspire the next generation of Music City entrepreneurs.
“Look at kids who are just interested in solving problems and asking questions. That leads to entrepreneurship, which leads to invention and innovation.”
