SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Three Lackawanna County women are inspiring others through their entrepreneurial careers.
On Thursday, as part of Black History Month, they gave future businesswomen some sage advice to take home.
Black women business owners shared advice, wisdom and empowerment during a panel presentation Thursday night on campus at the University of Scranton.
Helping future entrepreneurs: That’s the goal of three Black women business owners chatting by the fire with people at the University of Scranton.
East Stroudsburg resident Toni Morrison said, “I feel more empowered because I have more confidence, or I feel like I know, oh, if she can do it, I can do it too.” It will become.”
One of the presenters, Dr. Rendra James, was a nurse for over 20 years before changing paths to run her own wellness business.
“As women of color, Black women essentially take on entrepreneurial roles, but we don’t really see those roles, especially in the areas where we live right now.” Speaker “It’s kind of nice to hear that all three of them have some connection to it in some way,” Morrison said.
Amber Viola, host and producer of the Turning Politics into Fashion podcast, says it’s all about taking the first step.
“Sometimes you just have to start. You can’t wait for someone to be your partner, you can’t wait for the money to come in, you can’t wait for the right time. There’s never a right time. It’s not,” Viola explained.
Like Viola, Tiffany Murphy, owner of Gifts by Tiffany Murphy, also runs two businesses.
Therapists believe that success begins with taking care of yourself.
“We have really busy schedules and we need to recharge and rejuvenate in order to be fully functional and do what we need to do effectively and efficiently,” Murphy said.
“It’s possible. It’s possible. So dream as big as you want, and dream out loud. Because when you say your dreams out loud, they can actually happen.” Zakiya Smith, University of Scranton SBDC Business Consultant, explained.
