Governor Scott and the state of Vermont will provide an additional $4.5 million in program funding to support construction of the first facility in the United States capable of high-volume manufacturing of next-generation gallium nitride (GaN) semiconductors used in electric vehicles, power grids, and data centers. announced the dollar. , 5G and 6G smartphones, and other important technologies.
Vermont will be the only GF site to manufacture GaN chips, which have faster processing speeds and higher heat resistance than current silicon chips. The Trusted Foundry designation allows for the development and manufacture of government technology, including for the Department of Defense.
Approximately 1,800 GF employees currently work in the field. Mr Caulfield said the new investment would help secure the future of the factory.
