Rohan Marley is opening up about his multi-million dollar business empire if his brother Ziggy hadn’t given him an ‘ultimatum’.
The entrepreneur and former soccer player recently appeared on “Drink Champs” and explained how he and his brother are keeping their father’s legacy alive. One of the 11 children of the late Bob Marley, Lohan is one of the few Marley siblings to have carved out a path on the business side rather than in the music industry.
The Jamaican native originally aimed to play professional soccer in Jamaica after playing for Canadian Football League team the Ottawa Rough Riders in the mid-’90s. But after the injury, a real-life conversation with his brother Ziggy helped put things into perspective.
“This is how I started my business. One day, my brother Ziggy asked me a question. He says, ‘Listen to me.’ What do you want to do? Business or football? ” Lohan recalled. “I thought I would move to Los Angeles after rehab and try out for the LA Galaxy.”
Lohan, who was only 31 at the time, had already started her Tuff Gong Clothing line, which she launched with an investment of $8,000. Ziggy used this to motivate his younger brother to explore a career in business rather than sports.
“At the time, I was designing clothes for Tuff Gong, and he said, ‘Business or football?’ You have to make a choice. So in my mind I’m thinking, ‘I look like I’m 31,'” Lohan explained.
“So I had to make a decision. But what I thought earlier was, I’m too old… They’re going to put me on the bench. It’s frustrating. I can’t experience anything like that again.”
he continued. “So I had to choose a business and that’s where I became an entrepreneur. That’s when I got an ultimatum from my brother Ziggy. It was from Tuff Gong Clothing, Marley Coffee, RoMarley Beach House, etc. I’ve now started my own cannabis company, Lion Order, in Detroit, Michigan, so I’m doing a lot of different things.”
Since then, Lohan has amassed a net worth of $20 million through a variety of businesses, including a clothing company, a coffee company, a cannabis product line, and Romaly Beach House, a seaside hotel in Puerto Morelos, Mexico.
In addition to her entrepreneurial endeavors, Lohan is also helping to carry on her father’s legacy by running the Marley family’s charity, 1Love.
“We are all born of love, and to produce we must love,” he said of his family’s Rastafarian beliefs, which advocate peace, unity and connection to the earth. Ta.
