LeBron James on Saturday became the first NBA player to reach 40,000 points in the regular season, extending his own all-time scoring record.
The Los Angeles Lakers star completed a total pass with a driving layup with his left hand early in the second quarter, earning a standing ovation from the Crypto.com Arena crowd. Play was not stopped, but it was acknowledged with a video tribute and more applause during a subsequent timeout.

He entered the game against the Denver Nuggets nine points down from 40,000. This milestone comes just one year after he passed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the most career points in NBA history.
Counting both playoff and regular season points, James has already surpassed 40,000 points, with 48,014 points as of Saturday. However, he is the first player to accomplish this feat in just the regular season.
