When Jennifer Gardner was laid off from her archeology job in 2014, she knew it was time to evolve her part-time pet sitting job into a full-time business. So she started Platinum Paws, a premium pet sitting service company that provides in-home care for all types of pets in Washington County, Maryland. And when Gardner says about pets of all kinds, she means it. Her customers include common livestock, as well as lizards, horses, and more. “Chickens, dogs, guinea pigs, you name it,” Gardner says.
Gardner and his seven part-time employees are experts in animal care and customer relationship building. “We form amazing bonds with our clients’ dogs and cats and their animals,” she explains. “The most satisfying thing about running a business now is actually hiring employees and bringing in employees who are as pet-focused and customer service-oriented as I am.”
But after a few years in business, this solopreneur realized he needed help to grow his business. “I actually had no idea what to do with marketing, so he started looking at Verizon Small Business Digital Ready,” Gardner says.
Since discovering the program, Gardner has taken more than 50 courses, including live coaching sessions on search engine optimization (SEO) with veteran digital marketing expert Myisha Walker.
“Search engine optimization is a very exciting area for small business owners,” Walker explains. result. “
With Walker’s help, Gardner says she’s gotten more phone calls about her business, going from zero to more than 15 each month. Additionally, her revenue increased by 25% year over year. She attributes that in part to the Digital Ready program.
“Verizon’s program tells you what you need to know to run your business,” she says. “Here’s what you need to know to run and grow your business. It’s not a cookie-cutter approach.”
Gardner also found himself returning to the platform for a sense of community. “Group Community She has events and it’s so much fun because when you participate, everyone gives you feedback. And I really like that,” she says. “You get to know people. You can ask questions. The instructors know you.”
Meanwhile, expert instructor Myisha Walker is equally passionate about the program and the opportunity to work with entrepreneurs like Gardner. “It’s incredibly rewarding to be able to help small business owners become more successful and build the businesses of their dreams,” she says. She said, “I feel like I’m really making an impact…and it’s very exciting.”
