Florinette Cupidon I have always approached life with a people-first mindset. That’s why the Mauritian female entrepreneur earned a bachelor’s degree in human resource management and services from Mascaregne University and a master’s degree in international development from Birbeck, University of London.
“I have always been amazed by the dynamics of working closely with people, understanding their needs, and fostering a positive work environment,” says Cupidon.
Learning about human resources made the most sense to me because I want to empower others and make a positive impact in the workplace.
And it was I am studying international development at the graduate school level.
This subject matter allowed her to explore interconnected issues, understand the global situation, and develop strategies that go beyond individual efforts.
“I recognized the interdisciplinary nature of international development as a key element in driving positive change,” says Cupidon.
That discovery came at a time when she needed it most. It was in the early days of her non-profile online platform. glitter noir community.

We spoke to Cupidon to learn more about the Chevening Scholarship, how her education in the UK shaped her, and what it means to be a female entrepreneur today.

How did you hear about the Chevening Scholarship?
I discovered the Chevening Scholarship while doing extensive research on available master’s programs and scholarships.
I was eager to earn a master’s degree and actively sought opportunities that matched my personal and professional aspirations.
The Chevening Scholarship caught my attention because of its prestigious reputation and commitment to developing future leaders and change-makers.
I found this scholarship’s focus on enabling individuals to contribute to the development of their country to resonate with my goals and be a good fit for my journey.

What do you think is the biggest barrier preventing Mauritian women from pursuing a degree abroad?
I think it’s a combination of several influences: society, culture, and lack of awareness. Many Mauritian women are unaware of the many opportunities open to them.
They don’t know there are mentorship programs, scholarships, and many other resources out there.
They don’t realize that they are influenced by what society thinks and says about what they can do and achieve.. Uncles and aunts may be discouraged and say that women don’t need to complete a master’s degree in the UK.
We see them as wise, but they instead end up usurping our power.
How has your degree in the UK influenced your career?
Completing my degree in the UK, especially through the Chevening Scholarship, has elevated my career to the next level.
My professional status improved and I was able to move back to Mauritius and take up a mid-level position. I feel this is a very fulfilling milestone for me as a female entrepreneur.
The education I received in the UK not only improved my knowledge and skills but also helped me become more mature. I am able to respond better to challenges and situations.

I feel that I can contribute meaningfully to my field. The door to opportunity is now open to me.
I am truly grateful for the impact my UK degree has had on my career. It gave me more ability and confidence. I feel ready to make a difference in my chosen path.
Please tell us more about the Glitter Noir collection. How do we support and empower women?
Glitternoire Collection is my entrepreneurial venture. We believe that everyone has their own sparkle and magic. That flame inspires them to pursue their dreams.
My business is here to empower people, especially women.
Sure, there are a lot of stylish clothes, but the important thing is to use them to give confidence to the person wearing them.
Fashion is a form of self-expression for me and an art form that I am passionate about.
We are also working on initiatives that go beyond the boundaries of fashion to support and uplift women.
We work with women-led businesses to showcase inspiring stories on our platform and create community spaces for women to connect and empower each other.
What do you consider your greatest accomplishment as a female entrepreneur?
My greatest accomplishment as a female entrepreneur has been witnessing the community’s response to my brand, Glitternoire Collection.
I find it very rewarding that women and people around me understand the brand’s vision and mission and are actively involved.
I feel a sense of accomplishment that I was able to turn my idea into a brand, a brand that goes beyond fashion.
This contributed to the victory I won the prestigious Chevening Scholarship and convinced the judges that I could be a leader.

What advice would you give to people planning to pursue a master’s degree in the UK?
My advice is to study for a master’s degree in the UK. An experience that will last a lifetime.

And when things get tough, and they always will, we approach challenges with an open mind, both in and out of class.
