DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) – Duluth’s tourism program won an award at a recent statewide tourism conference.
Explore Minnesota Tourism announced Visit Duluth’s leisure tourism marketing program as the recipient of the “Creating Welcoming Experiences” award at its annual conference on February 27th.
The award recognizes destinations that work to create a more pleasant experience for travelers through initiatives such as highlighting content that celebrates diversity, fostering relationships with cultural and heritage communities, and improving accessibility. Masu.
Officials released the following statement:
“Spreading the message that Duluth is for everyone is a priority for Duluth’s leisure tourism marketing efforts, led by the City of Duluth and its agency partners Belmont Partners and Lawrence & Schiller. .
Initiatives to promote inclusivity, including age, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, ability, gender, income level, and more, were created and implemented throughout the year in marketing campaigns. This includes earned media, social media, website content, paid media, email marketing, and more. The intentional inclusion of a diverse population, including Duluth locals themselves, is reflected in elements such as images, videos, language used, activity/itinerary ideas, and trip planning resources.
Creative materials were produced in collaboration with three Duluth companies: Old Saw Media, Pointed North Photo, and Kim Kosmatka Photography. These three companies provided local insight and production expertise for multiple video and photo shoots throughout the year. Duluth’s tourism industry was also involved in the planning and implementation of this initiative, allowing a variety of voices to be heard. ”
Thanks to these efforts, Duluth tourism set a record for tax collections in 2023, up 6.9% over the all-time high in 2022 and 18.7% over pre-pandemic 2019, officials said.
“We are honored to have this important initiative recognized by Minnesota’s tourism industry,” said Tricia Hobbs, senior economic development officer for the City of Duluth. “We want people to come to Duluth for who they are, and our intentional efforts to show that everyone is welcome in our city will help potential visitors. It resonates with both locals and locals alike.”
