Albany, New York – The Agriculture and NYS Equine Breeding Development Fund announced that the Fund will implement the County Fair Racetrack Capital Improvement Program. This fund will expend up to $15,000 for harness racetrack capital construction or maintenance equipment.
The Agriculture and New York State Equine Breeding Development Fund will continue the County Fair Repair Reimbursement Program. If Standardbred races are held during this year’s fair, the fund will reimburse him for up to $6,000 in repair costs and $2,000 in administrative costs associated with race day.
“We are pleased to introduce a capital improvement program to county fair racetracks across New York,” said Ralph Scunziano, executive director of the Agriculture and New York State Equine Breeding Development Fund. “Everyone involved, from the jockeys to the fans and, most importantly, the Standardbreds, will benefit from this significant investment in our racetrack and track.”

The Fund will review all applications on a case-by-case basis and further details will be provided upon approval.
The foundation also announced today that the 2024 county fair harness racing season will feature an undivided field, resulting in an increased field of equal size and a fair distribution of purses. .
The New York Sire Stakes is the state’s premier harness racing program for 2- and 3-year-old Standardbreds. Established to encourage the breeding, purchase, and racing of Standardbred horses in New York State, it is the oldest harness racing program of its kind in the nation and has served as a model for state production racing programs.
