rupaul’s drag race It’s a comedy after all. There are also explorations of queer identity, showcases of great talent, and infuriating examples of production intervention. But remember that the show started out as a parody of reality competition shows like: project runway and america’s next top model. recently, drag race Queens understand what being on TV can do for their careers, so they sometimes fall into the trap of taking themselves too seriously. Competitions may be arbitrary, but the results are legitimately important to the lives of the participants. Still, the gist of the show is silly and stupid; drag race If you remember that, it could be a really fun episode.

That’s what it’s like this week. The best part of this episode is seeing the girls fail comically. This challenge is mostly terrible, but in a way I enjoyed it (see this week’s article) UK vs. World In the less interesting version), no one goes home in the end. It’s acknowledged that this is the mid-way point of the season – they even aired an extra episode of Pit Stop this week to emphasize that fact – and the show has received what I would call a “charming episode” of musical theater. So, a charm song (a term coined by Riemann Engel) refers to a number that is not intended to make the audience laugh or advance the story, but is fun enough to make you feel endeared when the characters sing. . This episode is no different (albeit funny, of course). It’s a break in the season so I can pay more attention to the girls without changing the stakes too much. Something similar was done in Season 12’s Non-Elimination Makeover Challenge, where the entire episode was spent having fun with the girls, and the top 6 queens (actually her 5 excluding her Sh****P**) people) have become more adorable.

This episode is definitely light, but I also think it’s effective. The recording and rehearsal scenes were really hilarious, and while the resulting numbers weren’t great, they at least made me re-evaluate the level of talent in her one girl. The downside is that one of her biggest subplots of the season, Plane’s immunity potion, is completely toothless. It’s a shame, especially since it turned out to be a pretty high-drama situation. Is that a mark for the episode? probably. If they wanted to do a charm episode at this point, they probably shouldn’t have scheduled the potions to expire at the same time. The level of producer manipulation feels pretty off-the-wall, which is largely forgivable given the lack of repercussions, but it’s still annoying. Basically, I’m all for this week, but not rooting for it.

The episode begins with the Miami girls sniping at each other. Probably because they know they are the most disposable queens at this point. One of the things I love about her is that Miya came out of her shell and what we got was a bitch.

Quickly and efficiently, we are drawn into the political agenda they carry out every election year. At first it was a chaotic debate that Dan Savage tried to take seriously, but then it was judged as a comedic challenge and was later used as a comedic challenge in both seasons 8 and 12. This time it’s a political anthem, but I’m a little disappointed. This season was surprisingly lacking in comedic challenges. (To protect Nymphia?) This must be rectified as soon as possible.

The most notable thing about the songwriting sessions was that Nymphia was completely unable to write lyrics. This is funny because she’s having such a hard time, but I’ll make it clear that I’m significantly less bullish on her idea that she’s a winner. At some point, she needs to write something well. Because Saphira is here conquering every challenge set before her.

The recording session was a lot of fun. Her Mhi’ya sessions in particular bothered me. “Equal!” is the line of the season, and the fact that she says it in rhyme with “Equals” is also like the absurdity of an unintentional drag that I need in my life. It’s something. Equally good: Leland tries to see Miya’s unique interpretation of the word “rhyme” as a positive thing. “That’s a choice I have to sell.” Miya’s reaction? “Equal!” Between this and my Cher impression, my ideal drag her show would be for Mya to be asked for random voices and show off her best shots for about three hours straight. Drag queens are better at making catastrophic mistakes than any other category of people. Nymphia also makes some interesting mistakes. To. community! ” Others managed to fit an entire poem into that time; Nymphia just shouts the words. Other highlights: Q believes she can sing (she can’t), Dawn believes she can sing (nor can she), and Saphira knows she can sing (she can).

Dance rehearsal was also fun. I love the morphine chicken head, I love Saphira trying to break her cousin’s bones, I hate Q’s costume, but I love her Barbie doll hands. About Nymphia: “What the hell is she wearing?” That was the right question.

On to the performance! Unfortunately, this turned out to be a laugh riot. It’s so frantic, the structure so strange, the whole idea so wrong that I began to marvel that it was a work of pure kinetic energy. Choosing Dawn to start the whole thing was probably a bad idea. I was confused about the goal of this whole challenge because she couldn’t do any dances that could even be mistaken for “funky.” And “eQuaL” features Mhi’ya as is, dancing perfectly with a complete stone face throughout. Finally, there’s morphine. Its signature movement seems to be lifting a fully extended leg into the air, arching, and stomping. She even did it at the Girl Group Challenge! Why is it hers? The first segment ends with her three girls dancing. So morphine takes control of her. I couldn’t take my eyes off her. Her hair is so gorgeous that we should be able to get endless wigs.

The next group begins with Nymphia saying six words, rapping two lines that don’t rhyme, throwing confetti, and destroying the plane with a dance. Her costume is perfect for this challenge, with bananas swinging all over the place. Airplanes are not very noticeable.she is not her bad, but she’s definitely the most boring of the week. Michelle chalks it up to nerves, but she probably will! All I know is that I was bored, and for a drag queen, that’s far worse than bad.

Then there’s Q, who isn’t given any choreography and is still bad at dancing. Also, I don’t like her clothes. what is that wig? terrible. Saphira explodes like a bomb on stage. Although this challenge is basically a direct response to her, she uses it as an opportunity to overcome this situation. The fact that Q and Saphira don’t have to dance next to each other like the rest of the group is clearly a setup so that she doesn’t make Q look so terrible. Imagine if they had let those two do that. (I should have done that.)

Finally, the group comes together for a really bad time at the end, and just when they think they’re free, they do an encore. That’s really bad, guys. I really enjoyed it.

This week’s runway is monochrome. Miya seems to be doing well. Her judges devour her like she’s taken a thousand steps forward, but there’s not much improvement between her rosy look and her performance in this challenge. was on the same level as the winning girl group’s performance. Some may sympathize with Nymphia’s obsession with bananas.I’m pretty much the same way, but if she did not do it Please choose yellow. The problem is she keeps talking about it. The plane looks ugly. These naked fantasies always look overwhelming, the shapes are delicate and the roots are not fused with geometric elements.Saphira’s appearance can’t believe it. How did she pack her things? how? ! Dawn is cute and fun. Standing on your toes feels great. I like Q’s hat and pants, but the bra is underwhelming. Morphine seems great. One thing I can say is, I know she loves her BBL, but she’s also remarkable outside of drag, because in drag she achieves extremely high proportions. I think she could still use more padding. The shape while dragging is not as Her face is understandably va-va-va-boom.

Big for a moment Plane is giving Nymphia a potion of immunity, but it doesn’t hit. This episode is very light on plot, and in retrospect, the fact that no one goes home means that the stake was completely driven into the ground. It’s a shame the show wasted that moment. It could have been an all-timer. But then you’d have to send Plain or her Q home, and that would probably be a bridge too far. (You would be shocked to hear that it was okay for me to quit Q.)

Girls usually receive positive criticism. This is because that is what is necessary to achieve non-elimination. If the judges wanted, they could have given Dawn, Mhi’ya, and Q even harsher marks. Plane is the only one they actually harp on, but that’s because it helps move along the plot of the episode. Saphira and Morphine are rightly praised as the top two, and after some confusion, they learn that they lip-sync for the win.

And now I must end this summary with a confession. drag race Unfortunately, I can’t comment on the details of Saphira’s perhaps well-deserved win, as I chose not to include lip-syncing in this week’s pre-screening. Please write in the comments and let’s discuss. But they taught me the song, and I will say this: There are a number of interesting/iconic pop performers who have never warranted a lip sync on this show (Marina and the・Diamonds, Kacey Musgraves, Ciara, Caroline Polachek, Brandy, Bjork Azealia Bank, SZA, most musical theater people, etc.). How can I lip-sync multiple Meghan Trainor versions?

• Crazy that the wig played by Morphine wasn’t her wig. Seriously, she should buy 10 of them first when she gets home. Also, Plane is kind enough to lend me so many wigs, even if I’m fantasizing about the placement.

• This week is hard to compare to other weeks, especially without the lip sync. I chose 4 stars, but rankings are mostly arbitrary. I was going to give this episode both 3 and 5 stars in many ways.

• Morphine bootcut jeans!

• Trauma Makeup Corner: Dawn talks a lot about therapy this week.

• Predicted top 4: same. Nymphia, Sapphire, Plain, Q.

• gay thought Comments from gay people: We asked them for their opinions on this season’s hottest queen. My friend Jake says, “When you stop buying boys’ clothes at Gap, PJs.” My friend Norm says, “I’m hungry for drugs and everything, the size of Saphira’s closet.” My boyfriend says, “I don’t care if the queens are sexy or not.I don’t care if the queens are sexy or not.I don’t care if the queens are sexy or not. They live to do drag, even if they don’t have a popular TV show.” I want him to be a weird freak, like someone who did drag before (or some other B.F.A. I don’t know how to use it). That being said, Shunami is hot. ”

• UK vs. World report: The numbers were impressively terrible. Gosy was just sad and the judges were so kind that she felt patronized. she just isn’t there. Marina ate it. Marina also lip synced. I think Tia…was okay. I wouldn’t have put her at the top. I believe she gave La Grande Dame my favorite runway wear every week. This week has been amazing.
