Rep. Brian Mast (R-FL), along with a bipartisan group of Florida colleagues, urges President Joe Biden to prioritize fully funding South Florida ecosystem restoration as part of his next budget. , working to restore the Florida Everglades.

In a March 6 letter to Biden, led by Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Rep. Mast and seven other members said the president would submit the next fiscal year 2025 to Congress. In his budget request, he asked for at least $725 million for Everglades restoration.
Rep. Mast’s office emphasized the economic and environmental importance of the Everglades, which is home to more species of plants and animals than any other ecosystem in the continental United States. The requested funds would help combat the damage caused by the federal government discharging toxic water from Lake Okeechobee into rivers and lagoons nearly every summer.
